Silhouette of a person making a heart shape at sunset.

Today, I was reminded of just how easily the world can reject us—and how deeply that rejection can sting.

Lately, I’ve been praying for direction. Asking God what’s next. Asking who I am to Him and what He wants for my life. I’ve been searching for clarity and purpose—just trying to follow His lead.

I applied for a job at another company. On paper, it looked great: better benefits, bonuses, more paid time off, and the chance to work from home. But the catch? Triple the workload of what I’m doing now.

This morning, I got the email. You know the one—the polite rejection letter. “Thanks for applying… the competition was strong… we’ve decided to move forward with another candidate…” Blah, blah, blah.

A few years ago, that kind of rejection would’ve crushed me. I would’ve taken it personally, felt defeated, maybe even questioned my worth. But this time, it was different.

I showed up to that interview more confident than I’ve ever been. I was prepared, prayed up, and I genuinely enjoyed the conversation. There was no question I would’ve been a great fit. But deep down, I knew—if this job took too much of my time and energy, it might steal from the peace I have now… and the time I’ve been giving to God.

So I prayed. I asked God plainly: If this job isn’t for me, don’t let me have it. I meant it. And I trusted Him enough to believe that if it was mine, I’d get it—and if not, I wouldn’t.

So when the rejection came this morning, I exhaled. Shrugged. And said, Okay. On to the next thing God’s calling me to do—encouraging His people.

To the People Pleasers

Maybe your rejection didn’t come from a job. Maybe it was a college application. A team tryout. A friend who ghosted. A family member who overlooks you.

Maybe you’re like me—you care hard. You give your best to everyone around you. You’re the one who checks in. The one who remembers birthdays. The one carrying the weight while others live carefree.

Maybe you’re in a relationship giving 120%, while you’re lucky to get 5% in return.

If that’s you, I see you. And today, I want to encourage you.

I’ve been there—tired, overlooked, frustrated. Pouring into everyone else, and wondering why no one’s pouring back.

One day, God gently showed me how much of myself I was giving to others—and how little I was giving to Him.

That hit me. Because I’d been doing it for years. So I asked myself: What would happen if I pursued God the way I pursue people?

What if the time I spent texting and checking in became quiet time with Him? What if I swapped scrolling for Scripture? Talking to everyone else—for talking to the One who created me?

God Is Love—And He’s What You’ve Been Looking For

We all want to feel loved. It’s natural to want a return on what we give. But here’s the truth: God is love. He is the exchange you’ve been waiting for—the one relationship where you don’t have to prove yourself to be accepted.

I’m not saying cut everyone off. I’m not telling you to stop helping people. That’s not who you are.

But I am saying: Worshift.

Shift your focus. Redirect your energy. Start putting God first and trust that He’ll take care of the rest.

Spending time with God doesn’t cost a thing—and you don’t have to earn His love. You already have it.

More people are feeling alone than ever before. But the truth is, you’ve never been alone. God has been with you since the beginning. Don’t just take my word for it—ask Him.

It’s Time to Worshift

Now is the time to thank God for who He is and invest in your relationship with Him.

Shift your mindset from “No one sees me” to “God sees me and calls me His own.”

He loved you so much that He gave His only Son for you—to set you free, to remind you that you are never too far gone, and never too forgotten.

If you’re not sure where to start, pray this prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this opportunity to spend time with You and to truly know You.

Thank You that You want me close, and that when I draw near to You, You promise to draw near to me.

Please forgive me for the times I’ve looked to others to feel loved and approved. Forgive me for missing the mark and leaning on my own understanding instead of Yours.

I pray for the joy of Your salvation and to delight in Your presence.

Help me to know what pleases You and to walk with You more closely every day.

Holy Spirit, thank You for comforting me and shifting my perspective—from how I see myself to how God sees me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
